Tottenham Hotspur’s boss, Ange Postecoglou, is midway through his second season at the club, yet the Australian is still looking to turn around the club’s fortunes.
Despite a promising start last season, where Spurs accumulated 20 points from their opening eight Premier League matches, they were unable to maintain their momentum and ended the campaign in fifth place, se
Postecoglou acknowledges that he was fully aware of the challenges and high expectations surrounding Tottenham when he accepted the job. While Spurs are eager to end their silverware drought, Postecoglou believes the club is aiming for more than just any trophy — they want to compete for everything.
“You try and understand what you are stepping into before accepting any role. That’s always been my approach,” Postecoglou told Optus Sport.
“I realized I was joining one of the biggest clubs in the world, with top-notch facilities and resources, which was obvious. But it was equally clear that this club hasn’t had success in quite a while. I wanted to understand what that feels like here.”
Postecoglou added, “I’ve learned there’s a deep desire for that feeling of ‘we’ve won something,’ which I get, but I don’t completely agree with. I don’t think this club simply wants to win just anything. They want to be a club that competes for everything.”
“My focus now is building that bridge and helping everyone see that vision,” he explained.
The Spurs manager also emphasized that the teams he has led in the past have typically won silverware in his second season. Now, all eyes are on Postecoglou to see if he can deliver on that promise at Tottenham.
