Celtic’s decision to bring in goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel during the summer has proven fruitful, as he continues to shine under the management of Brendan Rodgers. The 37-year-old Danish international has been in stellar form, achieving six clean sheets in seven league matches this season.
Former Celtic goalkeeper, Lewis, believes Schmeichel has been significantly underrated throughout his career. He praised the Danish keeper’s talent and leadership qualities, emphasizing that his performance on the international stage with Denmark speaks volumes about his abilities.
“Schmeichel is a top-class goalkeeper,” Lewis stated in an interview with PLZ Soccer. “For me, he has been underrated throughout his whole career. I do not know whether having his dad’s legacy has been a help or a hindrance for him, but he has always been a top, top ‘keeper.”
Lewis highlighted Schmeichel’s extensive experience, noting his impressive number of caps for Denmark and his time as captain of the national team. “He is a real leader,” he added.
As Celtic prepares to face Aberdeen this weekend, all eyes will be on Schmeichel to see if he can help the Bhoys maintain their unbeaten run in the Scottish Premiership. With his track record and leadership, the team will be counting on him to deliver another standout performance.
