Manchester United is reportedly set to enter discussions with Amad Diallo regarding a new and improved contract, reflecting the attacker’s rising significance in the team as the 2024-25 campaign unfolds.
The 22-year-old Ivorian joined United from Atalanta BC in 2021, initially making a handful of appearances before embarking on loan spells at Rangers and Sunderland. His time at Sunderland during the 2022-23 season was particularly fruitful, where he netted 14 goals and provided four assists across 42 matches. Upon his return, Amad featured 12 times for United in the 2023-24 season, but it is this season where he has truly begun to make his mark, already tallying 10 appearances, one goal, and one assist.
Contract Talks on the Horizon
While United holds the option to extend Amad’s contract until June 2026, the club aims to initiate negotiations for a new deal that is expected to include a pay rise. So far this season, he has started four Premier League matches, though he was an unused substitute in the recent game against Aston Villa, with manager Erik ten Hag opting for other options in attack.
Amad was also named in the Ivory Coast squad for their October internationals but had to withdraw due to illness. His fitness will need to be assessed ahead of United’s upcoming Premier League clash with Brentford.
Other Players Facing Contract Uncertainties
Amad is not the only player at Manchester United with a contract situation to navigate. Harry Maguire finds himself in a similar position, with his contract also set to expire next summer, although the club can extend it by an additional year.
Additionally, Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans, and Tom Heaton will see their deals end in June. While Evans and Heaton may consider retirement, they could also transition into coaching roles at Old Trafford. In contrast, Lindelof and Eriksen are expected to depart, as new contracts for them appear unlikely under the current management’s plans.
As United prepares for these crucial contract discussions, the future of several players, including Amad Diallo, hangs in the balance, shaping the club’s strategy moving forward.
